Wailuku, Hawaii – a judge denied a request to maintain private procedures in a divorce case for a Hawaii anesthesiologist accused of trying to kill his wife on a hiking route.
Gerhardt Konig’s wife requested divorce last month after he was accused of a murder position. Konig declared himself innocent. Prosecutors say he pushed her into the edge of a cliff, tried to inject her a syringe and then hit her head with a rock while walking in Honolulu in March.
The couple had been visiting Oahu while their children stayed at home in Maui.
A lawyer who represents the wife presented a motion to retain the public’s divorce case to protect the privacy of the couple’s young children. The wife also opposed allowing the news cameras to docume their divorce procedures.
According to judicial records, a judge denied his requests to seal the case during a hearing on Monday.
“At this time, we have no comment, except to lead the media to review our objection to the request for extended coverage and implore the general public to respect the privacy of this family during this very difficult time in their lives,” said a wife’s lawyer in an email to The Associated Press on Tuesday.
A Konig lawyer said that he and his client have no comment about the audience or the ruling.
Konig did not oppose the wife’s motion to seal the case of divorce.
Konig’s wife also presented a request for a temporary restriction order after the hiking incident, which said Konig accused her in December of having an adventure and had been in therapy and advice. He also said that her husband has sexually abused her and assaulted her.
Associated Press does not name the people who say they have been sexually abused unless they are publicly presented.
Since then, she has agreed that the restriction order is now unnecessary because her husband is detained without bail during the criminal case against her. His lawyer said he can refilage the request if Konig’s state of custody changes.
