Jordan prohibited the Muslim Brotherhood, the most vocal opposition group in the country, on Wednesday and confiscated their assets after it was discovered that the group members were linked to a sabotage plot, said Interior Minister Mazen French.
There were no immediate comments of the movement, which has legally operated in Jordan for decades and has generalized generalized support in the main urban centers and dozens of offices throughout the country.
Fraya said that all group activities would be prohibited and anyone who promotes his ideology would be responsible for law.
The prohibition includes publishing anything in the group and the closure and confiscation of all its offices and properties, he added.
Opponents of the Brotherhood, which is prohibited in most Arab countries, say it is a “dangerous terrorist group” that must be crushed. The movement says that it publicly resigned from violence decades ago and pursues an Islamist vision using peaceful means.
