Japan’s prime minister, Shigeru Ihiba, decided to resign, local media reported on Sunday, since the members of their ruling party seek to celebrate a new leadership race after the disastrous elections of the Upper House.
The decision occurs less than a year after the 68 -year -old man took the rudder of the dominant liberal democratic long (LDP). Since then it has lost its majority in both Chambers of Parliament.
Public broadcaster NHK Istiba said made the decision to avoid a division at the party, while the Asahi Shimbun Daily said he could not resist the growing calls for his resignation.
According to the reports, the Minister of the Farm and a former prime minister met with Ishiba on Saturday night to urge him to voluntarily resign.
Last week, four senior LDP officials, including number two of the party, Hiroshi Moriyama offered to resign.
The Oppositors to ISHIBA had been calling him to resign to assume responsibility for the electoral results, after the voting of the upper chamber in July.
LDP legislators and regional officials throughout Japan who want a new leadership election will submit a request on Monday.
The leadership career will be carried out if the required majority are reached.
