Islamabad: The capital police raided 17 locations to arrest the lawyers nominated in a case registered after a clash with the president of the Bar Association of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHCBA).
Police officials said 70 lawyers were nominated in the case, together with 150 to 200 unidentified people, in a FIR housed at the police station of the Secretariat for the complaint of the president of IHCBA, Syed Wajid Ali Shah Gillani.
After the case registration, the police obtained arrest orders. Later, separate police teams raided different places, including the residences of 11 lawyers nominated in the FIR.
At night, 17 raids were made in the capital, but they were not successful since the nominees had hidden to avoid arrest.
Images of the CCTV cameras installed in and around IHC Avenue and Constitution were also obtained and examined to identify others involved in the clash.
According to the FIR, lawyer Gillani went to the parking area outside the IHCBA office, where he saw 60 to 70 people dressed in lawyers together with 150 to 200 unidentified people. They sang slogans against the president of the Supreme Court of IHC, state institutions and the army.
The lawyer Gillani asked the lawyers to abstain such acts, but the mafia “attacked and mistreated him.” Supposedly they “abused him verbally” and threatened him with serious consequences.
The offices carriers and the IHCBA staff rescued him, after which the group dispersed.
In a publication on his account X, Shireen Mazari declared that at 1 in the morning a strongly armed police party of the Secretary Police Station surrounded his home and asked Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha.
“They were not there and we informed them. The police said there was a fir against them and that they should inform the police station, and then they left,” he wrote.
In another publication, Ms. Mazari said that all the videos of the IHC protest clearly showed that FIR charges were false, and added that the accounts of eyewitnesses also confirmed this.
“But the persecution of Imaan and Hadi has become a daily routine by the State. Ironic that the support of PTI lawyers has chosen the president of the IHC Bar Association,” he added.
As reported, the lawyers had organized a protest at the IHC facilities to oppose the suspension of Judge Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri of judicial work.
However, the tension exploded when, after the demonstration, lawyers affiliated with PTI face the president of IHCBA.
