Justin Morello used to believe that it was important to spend his rare television time only watching programs acclaimed by criticism with a certain prestige.
Then, his wife lit the first season of “The Summer I Gurn Basting” a few years ago, and the 31 -year -old immediately hooked on the adaptation of the book of teenage romance turned into viral Amazon Prime Show.
“I like to see programs and movies with my wife, and she took me to see all these programs that were pleasant to see,” said Justin, who lives in the Richmond area, Virginia, with his wife and four children. “This show is low game and simply fun, and we joke about as it happens. It has been, as, really pleasant.”
“The men who are aware of seeing a ‘female show’ are being lost entertainment,” he added later. “Put that label, you are missing entertainment.”
The Morellos are just one of the dozens of couples who have resorted to social networks to share their dedication to the melodrama of most sweet age that is finishing their third and last season. Although Justin has been a fan since 2022, Tiktok and Instagram members who swore their indifference are being exposed for their inability to stay away from the Conklin belly and the Fisher brothers.
“My husband watching the ‘Silly Little Show’ He ‘is not interested in'”, wrote a Tiktok user in a video with his spouse standing silently while captivating a scene with Conrad shouting Belly on the Beach.
Based on Jenny Han’s young adult novels, “The Summer I Gurnty” follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung), who spends all summer on the fictitious beach of coastal cousins with the Fisher family. Throughout the series, she sails for her feelings for the melancholic Conrad (Christopher Briney), who struggles to process her feelings after the death of her mother, and her younger brother, the quietest Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), whom the Tiktokers would probably describe as a “Golden Retriever boyfriend (affection and played).
Soaked in nostalgia and paired with a soundtrack full of Taylor, the show on First Love, Heartbreak, Persfir and Loyalty has obtained a cult of followers of Han and new spectators initially hot. With only three remaining episodes in the series, it has also stimulated an intense online debate as fans dissect each episode, they present nuptial showers with themes, they meet in bars for watches parties and go to the ends of the earth for “Team Conrad” or “Jeremiah”.
“This is that my husband did not see my ‘teenage love triangle shows,” wrote another Tiktok user in a video, showing her husband captivated in a dramatic scene while holding her newborn.
For Noah Brockway, a 29 -year -old boy from Pennsylvania who works in sales of medical devices, the interest in “The Summer I Girl Betting” did not start until the end of 2024, after his wife, Gabriella, learned of a colleague.
“My wife controls the remote control, and I only go with whatever it puts on,” said Noah. “I have seen many programs now that it would probably be my first option, but I liked it.”
As the couple broke the first two seasons, sometimes between the tasks or work, Noah admits that he also “got into him”, sometimes peeking his head to pay attention and catch up with what was happening while doing something else. When the new season premiered in July, he was excited to see how the story would develop and if Belly would end his favorite character, the medical student Conrad.
“We are 100% of the Conrad team. We hope that if we ever have a son, he is like Conrad,” Gabriella said.
In recent weeks, Noah and Gabriella have settled in a new Wednesday routine to keep up with the episode launches. Gabriella, who has been at home with her newborn daughter, observes it early in the morning when Noah starts working. Sometimes, Noah can go out and look around the corner to see what is happening, but the couple always looks at him later at night.
“At 9:15, we have a Bagel in hand, bacon in hand, coffee, and we are starting it,” Gabriella said, adding that during the second surveillance at night with Noah, he knows when to register his reactions to great moments. Those reactions have obtained thousands of views on Tiktok.
Like the Morellos, the Brockways have led Tiktok to document their joint interest in the program, and have strong feelings about the program, while heading to unknown territory and diverges from the trilogy. Episode eight ended with Belly buying spontaneously a ticket to Paris following the dramatic Jeremiah’s final on his wedding day, after his feelings for Conrad, and his feelings, they reveal themselves.
An advance launched last week for the last three episodes of the program showed Belly in Paris and dancing with new characters, while “Anything Happen” of Ellie Goulding reproduces at the bottom. In the final scene, Belly sees that Conrad has sent him a letter, and Briney can be heard: “Dear Belly”.
“If she ended with Jeremiah, we would be marked,” said Laney Morello, 30, about her and Justin’s feelings at the end of the program. “Justin still wants her to go to Paris and meet someone there.”
But while both couples are firm in their beliefs of “Conrad team”, they have strong feelings about the other characters and enjoy the family aspect of the program, it is the fact that the program is an activity that can share what makes it worth it.
“We may have to start the time of the early nap,” Justin joked when he was asked how they plan to see Wednesday’s new episode. “Maybe we will wake up early. We will definitely try to do it, like, at noon.”
Laney added: “We don’t want to get any spoilers!”
