NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal for not “saying a word” in caste surveygrowing inflationissue of American indictment of Gautam Adani, among others.
“Prime Minister Modi and AAP national coordinator Arvind Kejriwal do not even talk about caste census. Both want the backward communities, Dalits, tribals and minorities not to get their rights… You should ask the Prime Minister Modi and Arvind Kejriwal whether they support caste census or not… After the Congress government is formed in Delhi, we will conduct a caste census in the national capital,” he said addressing the speeches. ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Public Meeting at Seelampur, Delhi.
“Inflation is at its peak. The poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. Ambani and Adani are marketing for PM Modi. Have you ever seen PM Modi and Arvind Kejriwal say anything about Adani?… We don’t want a country of billionaires,” he continued.
Continuing his rhetoric of “saving the Constitution”, Rahul reiterated that the BJP and the RSS were trying to “destroy” the Constitution.
“There is an ideological battle in the country and no matter what happens, we will continue to protect the Constitution. In the Constitution it is clearly written that India belongs to all Indians, regardless of their caste or religion. It is also written that all Indians should be protected in the country. But these days the BJP-RSS people are trying to destroy the Constitution. These people spread hatred, make brother fight with brother and scare people Constitution,” he said.
The Congress is gearing up for a lonely political fight in Delhi as two important partners of the INDIA bloc have extended their support to Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party for the assembly elections.
Although Congress and AAP were allies during the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, they will now face each other as competitors in the upcoming elections. Delhi is scheduled to go to polls on February 5 and votes would be counted on February 8.
