The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that New Delhi and Washington still shared the “very positive” ties, after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, reaffirmed his personal friendship and minimized his previous comments about “Losing India” against China.
The exchange occurs in the middle of strains after Washington imposed tariffs of up to 50 percent in Indian imports, accusing New Dehli of feeding Moscow’s mortal attacks against Ukraine buying Russian oil.
But Trump and Modi, both right -wing populists, have shared a strong link since the first mandate of the president of the United States.
“I deeply appreciate and completely reward the feelings of President Trump and the positive evaluation of our ties,” Modi wrote in X, adding that India and the United States shared a “very positive and prospective integral and global strategic association.”
Previously, Trump told journalists that “he will always be a friend of Modi.”
“India and the United States have a special relationship. There is nothing to worry about,” Trump said, minimizing his previous comments on “Losing India” to China.
Last week, Modi visited China to attend a meeting of the Shanghai cooperation organization, his first visit to the country in seven years pointing out a thaw between the two Asian powers.
Trump has seemed irritated in New Delhi, since he seeks credit so, according to him, it was the diplomacy worthy of the Nobel Prize to negotiate peace between Pakistan and India after the worst conflict in decades among neighbors with nuclear weapons in May.
India, who firmly rejects any third -party mediation on the subject of Kashmir, has given Trump’s cold shoulder.
