Indian cabinet approves 2030 Commonwealth Games bid, names Ahmedabad as ‘ideal host city’ – Sport

India said Wednesday that the city of Ahmedabad is an “ideal” location for the Commonwealth 2030 Games, with its offer seen as part of a broader impulse by the Made of Cricket nation to organize the 2036 Olympic Games.

Ahmedabad is the key city of the native state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi de Gujarat, home of a 130,000 square sand, the world’s largest Cricket stadium and bears the name of the prime minister.

The Modi cabinet approved India’s offer for the Commonwealth 2030 games on Wednesday.

India presented a letter of formal intention last year to the International Olympic Committee to organize the 2036 Games.

“Ahmedabad is an ideal host city that offers world -class stadiums, avant -garde training facilities and a passionate sports culture,” said a cabinet statement.

“The Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest stadium, has already demonstrated its capacity by successfully organizing the Crick -Ket 2023 Cricket World Cricket final,” he said.

According to the reports, Nigeria and at least two other nations have expressed interest in organizing the Commonwealth Games, which struggled to find a replacement host by 2026 after Victoria’s Australian state retired, citing costs.

Glasgow’s British city intervened and organize a thinned version.

The decision on the host 2030 will be taken in November.

India said that if the offer wins, the Commonwealth games would be a “complete” event.

That would include sports -like -type sports such as Kabaddi and Kho Kho, which India is pressing to be included in the Olympic Games.

India has a population of 1.4 billion, but its record in the Olympic Games is poor for a country of its size, winning only 10 gold medals in its history.
