NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena UBT Leader Sanjay Rout on Monday weighed in on the ongoing discussion on the relevance of the INDIA bloc and reiterated his stance that the Congress should take the lead in initiating dialogue.
In his address to the media, Raut stressed that the Congress must take the responsibility of being the elder brother of the alliance. He also praised the alliance’s success in stopping the BJP-led NDA to obtain the majority in the 2024 general election.

“The INDIA bloc fought against Lok Sabha elections very good, but after that no alliance meeting was held, which is unfortunate. This is the responsibility of the Congress as it plays the role of elder brother, not ours,” Raut said.
Talks about the relevance of the INDIA bloc emerged after J&K CM Omar Abdullah commented that the alliance should be dissolved if the lack of clarity on the ground, caused by lack of communication and necessary meetings, continues.
“It would be good if all interested parties of the INDIA block Elections are called and it is clear if this was only for the parliamentary elections. If so, then let us finish and continue our work separately,” Abdullah had said.
Raut had also previously commented on his MVA partnerpivotal role in maintaining the alliance and had said, “It is the responsibility of the Congress to save the India Block.”
UBT leader Shiv Sena stressed that to save the alliance, communication between the parties of the bloc must be strengthened. He said: “In the coming days, if there is a need to save or strengthen the INDI alliance, dialogue will be necessary first of all.”
