PTI president Advocate Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday said party founder Imran Khan had allowed submission of the party’s written demands to the government amid ongoing negotiations to lower the political temperature.
Since Imran’s imprisonment last year, in several cases, the PTI’s relations with the government and establishment have deteriorated dramatically, marked by protests that frequently escalated into violence amid state repression.
Following the agitation, Imran set up a five-member committee to hold talks with “anyone”, signaling a change in the stance of PTI lawmakers in Parliament. In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also formed a committee with members of the ruling coalition.
The first meeting between the two sides took place on December 23, while the second took place on January 2. So far, the two sides have not made significant progress. The government and opposition will meet again, possibly this week. After many delays, PTI leaders finally got access to Imran a day ago. After the meeting, PTI leaders held a press conference in which they demanded an “unsupervised” meeting with the party founder.
Briefing the media about the situation after a meeting with Imran today, Advocate Gohar said, “We will submit our two demands in writing because although it is not necessary to do so, we do not want [delay the talks] using it as a reason.
“Khan sahab He has granted us permission and said that we should give him [our demands] in writing, so we will do it.”
On the issue of the talks being for the sake of a “deal”, Gohar said Imran and the party at large had repeatedly dismissed that notion, stressing that engagement with the government was for the good of the country and had a “limited purpose.” “.
Questioned about Imran’s sister Aleema Khan’s comments that her brother received several offers from the authorities through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Gohar downplayed the matter and cast doubt on it.
He said the PTI had not submitted any “offer” at any stage of engagements with the other party.
