Karachi: The city, fortunately, saw a partially sunny day on Thursday followed by light to moderate showers later at night, although contrary to what the PHIC had predicted.
By explaining the unexpected change in the climate in the last two days, the focal person of the Pakistan Meteorology (PMD) Anjum Niaz Zaigham said that the current monsoon system has lost its intensity and its probable impact on Karachi has almost ended.
“Although, while we talk, the city is likely to see good showers within an hour or so (late at night), since rain bands approach Karachi after causing showers in Hyderabad, Sanghar, Tando Allah Yar and other parts of Sindh,” he said.
He said Orangi Town saw a rain of 113 mm on Wednesday.
Light to moderate showers continue for the third day
According to him, the weather system launched its maximum energy on August 19 and the circulation on Gujarat, India, dissipated early as expected.
“We were thinking that the low pressure area and the circulation on Gujarat would combine together, but that did not happen, fortunately. Even, then, we wanted to remain cautious since it is difficult to predict the behavior of the system with total precision,” he said.
Karachi is expected to have its next monozonic spell on August 27, although it is likely that the current system affects the southeast parts of the province on Friday (today).
Meanwhile, the MET department in a notice has predicted a mostly cloudy climate with slight possibilities of light / drizzle rain during the next two days (Friday to Thursday) in Karachi with a maximum temperature that varies between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.
According to the 24 -hour rain data of the PMD of August 20, the maximum rain was recorded in the city of Orangi 113 mm followed by the PAF Faisal 43 mm base, Korangi 36 mm, Keamari 31 mm, paf base moreroor and University Road 24 mm each, DHA 21 mm, Nizamabad 19 mm, Saadi Twon 16 mm and North Karachi 9 mm.
Man dies of electrocution
A young man died of electrocution in the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) on Thursday, carrying the death toll at 15 in three days of rain.
Police surgeon Dr. Sumaiya Syed said Sunrise That Sahir Qamar, 30, was brought dead from DHA to the Jinnah postgraduate medical center on Thursday. He died of an electric shock, he said.
The authorities said that most of the deaths were caused by the fall of the structures of the house and electrocution.
‘Situation completely under control’
While the city administration is struggling to drain the accumulated rainwater in many underground steps and roads, Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi said that rainwater had been clear from most city markets and adjacent roads had been reopened for traffic.
He said in a statement that the drainage work in Nazimabad and Tariq Road Subasos had completed and both reopened for vehicular traffic. Similarly, the accumulated water in NIFUS had been removed and the road was restored for traffic flow. The work continues in the underground steps of Dright Road, Sohrab Goth and Gulbahar, where pumps and operational have been installed. The commissioner said that these underground steps will be clear soon, he added.
The Local Government Minister of Sindh, Saeed Ghani, also visited the city and told the media that the general situation in Karachi remained completely under control.
He said that despite continuous showers, municipal staff, civil administration, elected representatives and provincial ministers are present in the field to supervise help efforts. He added that after cleaning the main roads, the drainage work on the link roads and the residential streets has been accelerated.
He appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary trips during the downpour to avoid adverse incidents.
