Los Angeles – Federal Immigration authorities raided “multiple locations” throughout the city on Friday, authorities said, in action that obtained an immediate rebuke of Area officials and a distanced response from the application of local law.
The agents pointed to the clothing manufacturer, importer and wholesaler in the city’s fashion district, said US prosecutor Bill Essayli to NBC Los Angeles.
The agents fulfilled a search warrant and were looking for “fictional employee documents,” said Essayli.
A representative of the environment clothing could not be contacted immediately to comment on Friday.
The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, said there were federal immigration raids in “multiple locations” that spread “terror in our communities.”
“This morning, we received reports from federal immigration application actions in multiple locations in Los Angeles,” Bass said in a statement. “As mayor of a proud city of immigrants, which contribute to our city in many ways, I am deeply angry about what has happened. These tactics sow terror in our communities and interrupt the basic principles of security in our city.”
She added: “My office is in close coordination with community rights organizations. We will not defend this.”
The American senator Alex Padilla, a Democrat of California, described the action of the ice “a continuation of a disturbing pattern of extreme and cruel immigration application.”
“These indiscriminate raids demonstrate once again that the Trump administration does not care about anything but instilling damage and fear in our communities to bring immigrants to the shadows,” said Padilla, a native of Los Angeles and son of Mexican immigrants, in a statement.
Los Angeles police chief Jim McDonnell, and Sheriff Robert Luna hastened to say that his staff had no role in federal action.
“Today, Lapd realized that ICE was carrying out operations in the city of Los Angeles”, “ McDonnell said in a statement. “I am aware that these actions cause anxiety for many Angels, so I want to make it clear: the LAPD is not involved in the application of civil immigration.”
Luna acknowledged that the raids “have caused fear”, but asked residents to “remain calm and peaceful while we continue to place their safety and well -being at the forefront of our efforts.”

Eleven members of the City Council of 15 members condemned the action.
“This indiscriminate orientation of children and families not only harms the people who are directly affected, but destroy the sense of trust and security of our communities in their own homes,” legislators said in a joint statement.
“We condemn this in unequivocal terms: Los Angeles was built by immigrants and thrives due to immigrants. We will not comply with fear tactics to support extreme political agendas that aim to envive fear and spread discord in our city.”
Andrew Blankstein and Erick Mendoza reported from Los Angeles and David K. Li of New York City.
