The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit to the United Arab Emirates and assured him the support of the lender to the decisive actions of the Government with respect to the program, according to a statement published on Wednesday.

“I am encouraged by his strong commitment to the reforms backed by the IMF of Pakistan and support his decisive actions to pave the way to greater growth and more jobs for the youth population of Pakistan.”
These comments are presented in the midst of the IMF team visit to the country for a one -week scrutiny of the judicial and regulatory system as part of the extended fund installation (EFF) of $ 7 billion in progress to address the vulnerabilities of governance and corruption.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO), the prime minister held a meeting with the IMF head on Pakistan and macroeconomic stability achieved through the Government Integral Reform Agenda.
In addition, the meeting focused on Pakistan’s commitment to implement structural reforms and maintain fiscal discipline, “which had been fundamental to restore economic stability and would be critical to boost sustainable growth.”
The prime minister talked about the progress made in the program, attributing economic progress to the rescue agreement.
In addition, he reaffirmed the government’s resolution to sustain reforms, particularly in fiscal reforms, the efficiency of the energy sector and the development of the private sector.
The IMF manager praised the country’s efforts “by effectively implementing the program supported by the IMF, highlighting the improvement of the country’s economic performance with the increase in growth and decreased inflation,” according to the statement.
She acknowledged that Pakistan was “on the road to growth and has suffered an economic recovery”, further reiterating the IMF support to his reform agenda.
The prime minister was in the EAU together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, on a two -day visit by invitation from President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to participate in the World Summit of Governments (WGS).

He highlighted the approach to structural reforms on the fiscal side, the energy side, the reforms of the state entities (SOE) and the public finances in terms of the correct size of the federal government and the pension reforms.
