Alberta Prime Minister Danielle Smith says he has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney to see a final Stanley Cup by Edmonton Oilers.
In statements to the Canadian press in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, Smith said he is waiting to see if Carney will join her for game 5, which could take place next weekend before the G7 conference in Kananaskis, Alta.
Carney, who grew up in Edmonton, made clear his loyalty to the local team when he stopped at Rogers Place to skate with the oilers in March. That was his first visit to the city after having sworn as a liberal leader, replacing Justin Trudeau.
“I am pleased to see that at least we have a prime minister who knows which team support,” said Smith.
“I am a game. We will see if we can go together.”
The Prime Minister’s office did not immediately respond to a comment request on Wednesday. In response to a request for more details, Smith’s press secretary, Sam Blacktt, offered a brief statement.
“Let’s see if the series goes to five games first,” he said.
It would be the first game that Smith has publicly recognized the planning of attending during the Playoffs race of the NHL of Oilers this year.
Last year, the prime minister and some of the members of his cabinet faced criticism for accepting free luxury box tickets for playoff games.
At that time, Smith defended his assistance, saying that Alberta us expect their chosen representatives to support the team.

The prime minister has said that her movements and her ministers were above the board and did not break rules of ethics.

Peter Guthrie finally renounced the cabinet as Minister of Infrastructure on the management of the government of the Government Government, and was then retired from the conservative Caucus united completely by his criticisms.
Smith has denied any irregularity, insisting that his government fully cooperates with all investigations.
