The RCMP arrested eight people on Thursday morning in Quebec and Ontario as part of an investigation aimed at a smuggling ring that supposedly transported migrants through the US border.
RCMP spokesperson CPL. Martina Pillarova says that seven men and a woman, all between 20 and 30 years, were arrested in Montreal and Brampton, Ontario.
Police raided three houses in the two cities, and Pillarova says that one of the houses in Montreal was believed to be used as a “stash house” to hide migrants before they were smuggled in the United States.
She says that suspects will be in custody and can face positions related to human smuggling.
She adds that they could also face the elimination of Canada.
The RCMP says that the smuggling network announced its illegal crossing services on social media platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp.
