Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission said Monday that it was “deeply shocked” about the reports of the murder of several civilians caused by alleged “air bombings” in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tirah area and demanded an investigation into the matter.
The “HRCP is deeply surprised to know that several civilians, including children, have been killed, supposedly as a result of air bombing in Tirah, Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” the organization published in X published.
He demanded that “the authorities carry out immediate and impartial investigation into the incident and keep those responsible.”
“The State is constitutionally obliged to protect the right to life of all civilians, which has not been able to ensure,” said the HRCP statement.
Until now, the relevant authorities have issued any official statement to share the details of the informed incident. A statement charged in his account X said he expressed his pain for the “martyrdom of innocent civilians and the destruction of households due to the bombardment of reaction planes.”
Special Assistant of the Principal Minister of Communication and Works Sohail Afridi also raised the voice on the matter during the session of the KP Assembly today. He said the “horrible tragedy” occurred at 2 am in Tirah.
He claimed that 25 people, including women and children, were killed when “mortar and bombs were eliminated” on the locals. He blamed the security forces of the incident, however, he has not yet been established independently who was responsible.
Mohammad Iqbal Khan Afridi, a member of the Khyber National Assembly, expressed pain for the incident in a video message in Pashto, which he shared with the media.
He said that elderly women and children were killed in “bombings” in Tirah and urged people to reach the site of the incident to protest the murders.
The MNA said it was not the first time that such an incident had occurred. “The murder of civilians has become a routine.”
In a similar incident in May, 22 people, including seven children, were injured in an alleged Quadcopter strike in the Wana Tehsil of the Waziristan district of southern KP.
Around a week before, four children died and another five were injured in an alleged fall of Quadcopter ammunition in Mir Ali Tehsil of the North Waziristan district in KP. Later, the military clarified that the security forces were “falsely involved” in the incident and that it was carried out by the forbidden Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
