Washington: Hamaad Raza was waiting at the Reagan National Airport in Washington for his wife when he saw a series of activity and rescue teams running towards the Potomac River.
Moments later, he learned that American Airlines passenger plane that his wife was on board had collided with a military helicopter while landing.
Raza said his 26 -year -old was aboard the flight from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, who collided with a military helicopter shortly before 9 pm on Wednesday night.
“My wife sent me a text message that I was landing in 20 minutes,” Race told CBS news. “I’m just praying that someone takes her out of the river at this time.”
Race said the plane was close to landing when his wife recovered the reception and could send him a message just moments before the accident.
Then he shared his messages with a journalist, who then described the exchange as “one of the most heartbreaking interviews of my professional career.”
“She sent me a text message that they were landing in 20 minutes. The rest of my text messages were not delivered and that was when I realized that something could be happening, ”he said.
Raza explained that his wife had been traveling to Wichita for work, but had always felt restless to fly.
