Charlotte, NC-Memphis’s initial guard, Jaylen Wells, broke his right doll in a tough fall in his arm and heads from a collision in the air at the end of a quick overturning during a victory over Charlotte on Tuesday, probably ending the rookie season just before the Grizzlies in the playoffs.
Wells was down for eight minutes before being lifted by medical staff on a stretcher with his head tied to restrict the movement and taken to a hospital, where he had movement in all his limbs, said interim coach Tuomas Iisalo.
“He puts everything in perspective to see that situation and see Jaylen there,” Iisalo said. “He is an incredibly hard child and had a great season.”
The rookie’s father, Fred Wells, told Memphis’s commercial appeal that his son was alert enough to ask what the game score was. He had pain in his face, jaw and back.

Wells caught a Ja Morant exit pass and climbed on the edge, when Simpson undercooked him inadvertently from behind after trying to reach the work. The contact caused Wells to lose his balance while he was in the air and landed awkwardly on his side when his head crashed into the court near the baseline.
“It’s hard. I launched the pass and turned around and I was doing our little Touchdown celebration. When I got there, the first thing I saw was blood, and I have a weak stomach,” Morant said. “We have to keep him and keep praying for Him. He is the next man. Obviously that hurts. The boys will only have to be ready.”
The game was delayed a total of 23 minutes, including heating time for both teams. The authorities described a Flagrant 2 foul in Simpson after a repeat review for unnecessary contact, which comes with automatic expulsion. Simpson immediately leaned to see Wells after his collision and was visibly distressed while Wells was being treated in the silent sand.
A 2024 second round of the state of Washington, Wells has not yet lost a game for Memphis while starting 74 of 79 games. The 6 -foot 7 wells entered Tuesday’s game with averages of 10.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The Grizzlies with the victory moved to a draw for fourth place in the busy career of the West Conference, but they could still fall as low as eighth.
