Govt working to expand Raast, digitise economy: PM – Newspaper

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the government is working priority to digitize the economy and change financial transactions to a digital system without cash.

By chairing a review meeting on Economics without effective in Islamabad on Sunday, it addressed all provincial main secretaries that completely cooperate with the federal government to expand the RAST digital payment system at the district level.

The prime minister expressed his satisfaction for the progress made towards an economy without cash and digital financial systems.

The meeting was reported that Pakistan will develop digital public infrastructure to create digital identifications for each citizen, integrating national identity cards, biometry and mobile numbers.

These digital IDs will allow safe and efficient payments.

It was also said that provincial governments have shown significant progress in the linking of public and public government payments with the RAST system.

The meeting was reported that federal development agencies have granted the right of step to fiber connectivity, while the discussions are ongoing with the Pakistan railroads and the national road authority to expand digital infrastructure.
