The Advisor of the Minister of Finance, Khurram Shehzad, said Friday that the country’s International Monetary Fund Program (IMF) was “completely on the way”, pointing out a review process without problems despite the reports that India had raised concerns with the lenders about Pakistan’s loans and requested a review.
The relations between the two neighboring countries became hostile after an attack on April 22 at the occupied pahalgama that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, marking one of the most mortal assaults in the region since 2000. India implied cross -border links without evidence, while Pakistan rejected the accusation and requested a neutral investigation.
Following the attack, India suspended the Indo Water Treaty, and the two countries closed their airspace to the other airlines.
Pakistan obtained a rescue program of $ 7 billion from the IMF last year and was awarded a new loan of climate resilience of $ 1.3 billion in March.
The IMF Executive Board will meet on May 9 to discuss the country’s personnel agreement for a new agreement, together with the first review of the ongoing rescue program of Pakistan, said the global lender earlier this week.
Talking with Dawn.com Today, Shehzad said the program was “completely on the way” and that the review “did well.”
He said they held “very productive meetings” with the IMF, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other international financial institutions.
“While in the spring meetings in DC, we did about 70 meetings within the period of six days,” he said, added that the interest was very high to invest and support Pakistan when the economy turned around and the evaluators gave a positive perspective while improving the qualifications.
Separately, India raised concerns with the IMF in his loans to Pakistan, asking for a review, said a government source. Reuters without elaborating.
The IMF Ministry of Finance and India did not immediately respond to a request for comments by Reuters.
The program is essential for the economy of $ 350 billion and Pakistan said it has stabilized under the rescue that helped him avoid a default threat.
The very high tensions between the two countries have caught global attention and demand cooling temperature.
The United States vice president JD Vance said yesterday that Washington expected Pakistan to cooperate with India to hunt the assailants.
“And we hope, frankly, that Pakistan, to the extent that they are responsible, cooperates with India to ensure that the terrorists who sometimes operate in their territory are persecuted and treated,” Vance said.
