Govt announces four-day Eidul Azha holidays – Pakistan

The Federal Government announced on Monday a four -day holiday on the festive occasion of Eidul Azha.

According to a notification issued by the Division of the Cabinet, the Government has declared a public holiday from June 6 to 9, 2025 (Friday to Monday).

“The prime minister is pleased to declare the 6, seventh, 8 and 9 (Friday to Monday) as holidays on the occasion of Eidul Azha,” said the statement.

Pakistan would observe Eidul Azha on June 7, the Central Committee of Ruet-I-Hilal (RHC) of Moon Viring, announced last month after the crescent for the month of Zilhaj was not sighted.

The committee meeting took place on a roof in the Kohsar block of Islamabad, where the Ministry of Religious Affairs has its position.

Going to a press conference, the president of RHC, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, said: “No testimony was received from seeing the moon of the Zilhaj month from any part of Pakistan […]. Therefore, it was decided with consensus that Zilhaj 1, 1446ah would be on May 29, Thursday and Eidul Azha would be observed on June 7 and Saturday. ”

He pointed out that the climate remained cloudy in most of the country and of course in some.

Maulana Azad presided over the RHC meeting with officials and experts from other departments also met to see the moon. The simultaneous zonal meetings of the RHC also took place at its respective headquarters in the provincial capitals to send testimonies.

Dr. Mohammad Hasan Ali, director of the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics of the Pakistan Department of Meteorology; Shaukatullah Khan of the Space and Superior Environment Commission (Supparco); and Zainul Abedin, of the Ministry of Science and Technology, were among those present during the meeting.

Celebrated on Zilhaj, Eidul Azha marks the culmination of Haj, one of the five pillars of Islam.
