New Delhi: The Government said on Monday that 13 people were arrested in 2024 in relation to deception Threats of bombs To the airlines. Last year, airlines received a total of 728 bomb threats and from them, 714 were received by national carriers, according to data shared by the Civil Aviation Ministry in Rajya Sabha.
Citing data from the Office of Security of Civil Aviation (BCAS), Minister of Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the airline operators received 728 threats of deception bombs in 2024.
Among the Indian airlines, Indigo received the largest number of threats of bombs in 216, followed by Air India (179), viewed (153), Akasa Air (72) Spicebet (35), Alliance Air (26), Air India Express (19) and Star Air (14).
The total figure includes 14 bomb threats received by foreign carriers. Emirates and Air Arabia received five and three threats of this type, respectively, last year, while a threat was received by Aeroflot, Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, Etihad, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air, according to data.
“A total of 13 people have been arrested in 2024 in relation to threats of deception bombs,” he said in a written response.
BCAS has demanded robust protocols to handle such threats and, as part of the Pump Threat Contingency Plan (BTCP), each airport has a bomb threat assessment committee (BTAC) designated that analyzes the threat and acts accordingly.
“To deal with the threats of deception bombs, BCAS has issued notices to all those interested in civil aviation in the country to guarantee simplified security measures and to avoid any illegal interference with civil aviation,” said the minister.
