The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, said Sunday that he would sue the Trump administration after Federal of 300 troops from the California National Guard and deployed them to Oregon, only one day after a federal judge blocked the attempt of President Donald Trump to deploy troops of the Oregon National Guard in Portland.
“In response to a federal court order that blocked his attempt to federalize the Oregon National Guard, President Trump is deploying 300 personnel from the California National Guard in Oregon. They are now on their way,” said Newsom, Democrat, in a statement. “This is an impressive abuse of law and power. The Trump administration is attacking without apologies the rule of law itself and putting into action its dangerous words, ignoring the judicial orders and the judges treated, even those appointed by the president himself, as political opponents.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comments. A Pentagon spokesman sent questions about the deployment in the White House.
On Saturday, one day after the Trump administration activated 200 troops from the Oregon National Guard in Portland, a federal judge temporarily blocked the president’s measure.
The United States District Judge, Karin J. Imming, appointed by Trump, issued the temporary block, which lasts until at least October 18.
“This country has a long and fundamental resistance tradition to government overreach, especially in the form of military intrusion in civil matters,” he wrote in his ruling.
In a statement issued after the ruling, the governor of Oregon, Tina Kotek, said: “There is no insurrection in Portland. There is no threat to national security. Without fires, without bombs, or deaths due to civil disturbances. The only threat we face is for our democracy, and is being directed by President Donald Trump.”
The president has repeatedly faced democratic governors and mayors during the weekend for his movements to deploy National Guard troops throughout the country.
In addition to the demand of Democratic leaders in Portland and Oregon, the governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, a Democrat, grew Trump’s decision on Saturday to deploy National Guard troops in Chicago, an idea that the president has floated for weeks.
“It is absolutely scandalous and not American to demand that a governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will,” said Pritzker in a statement on Saturday.
The Democrats also criticized the president’s comments to high -level military leaders last week, when he told them that the military should “use some of these dangerous cities as training fields for our National Military Guard.”
Before the Trump administration movements this weekend in Portland and Chicago, he had deployed National Guard troops to two other US cities, Los Angeles and Washington, DC
Trump has also threatened to deploy troops and the Federal Police to other US cities, including Baltimore and New Orleans.
In Los Angeles last month, a federal judge ruled that the deployment of Troops and Marines of the National Guard was illegal. Days later, officials in Washington, DC, also demanded to block the deployment of national guard troops in the capital of the nation.
