Google updated its principles on Tuesday when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI), eliminating votes not to use weapons or surveillance technology.
The reviewed principles of the AI were published only weeks after the executive director of Google, Sussian Pichai, and other technological titans attended the inauguration of the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
When asked about AFP On the change, a Google spokesman referred to a blog post that describes the principles of the company that did not mention the promises, which Pichai first described in 2018.
“We believe that democracies should lead in the development of AI, guided by fundamental values such as freedom, equality and respect for human rights,” reads a blog post for the updated principles of the head of Google Deepmindmind Demis Hassabis and the senior vice president of research laboratories, James Manyika.
“And we believe that companies, governments and organizations that share these values should work together to create AI that protects people, promotes global growth and supports national security,” he continued.
Pichai had previously declared that the company would not design or implement weapons technology designed to damage people or “that collect or use information for surveillance that violates internationally accepted standards.”
That wording disappeared from the principles of updated by Google on Tuesday.
When assuming the position, Trump quickly rescinds an executive order of his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, who demands security practices for AI.
Companies in the race to lead the flourishing field of AI in the United States now have less obligations to adhere, such as having to share the results of the evidence indicating that technology has serious risks to the nation, its economy or its Citizens
Google pointed out in its blog post that publishes an annual report on its work of AI and Progress.
“There is a global competition for the leadership of AI within an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape,” said Hassabis and Manyika in their publication.
“Billions of people are using their daily lives.”
The original principles of Google were published after the reaction of the employees for their participation in a Pentagon research project that seeks the use of AI to improve the capacity of weapons systems to identify objectives.
Google finished its participation in the project.
