Bhopal/Jabalpur: Madhya Pradesh HC, in an interim order, directed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to allow candidates for Economically weaker sections (EWS) Category to fill the form for the civil services exam with a five -year relaxation at the maximum age limit, and allows nine attempts to the candidates of other reserved classes.
However, the results of these candidates will be subject to the final verdict of the Court, the Bank of the President of the South Southern Court Kumar Kait and Judge South Jain have said in their order of February 14.
The petitioner, Aditya Narayan Pandey of the city of MP de Maihar, has questioned why EWS applicants do not obtain the same benefits in the relaxation of age and the number of attempts as other reserved classes.
UPSC has announced 979 publications for 2025 civil services exam and the preliminaries carry on May 25. The petition argues that EWS candidates must have parity with candidates from other reserved classes and should not be club with general category candidates in terms of eligibility criteria. Reserved class candidates, such as SC/ST/OBC/Disabled Physical, obtain five years of relaxation at the higher age limit and nine attempts.
The Center and UPSC lawyer sought time to present objections to the petition, but HC said: “Since the last date to fill the forms is approaching, we consider appropriate to allow the petitioner to request the same. APSC is aimed at accepting the application of the application of the petitioner, as well as all other candidates located similarly for CSE-2025, without reference to the existing qualification or age, but subject to compliance with other conditions.
“However, the orders of appointing said candidates … will not be issued without permission from this court,” HC said. The next audience is Tuesday.
