On Thursday night, the neighbors noticed a new feature in prison: a mesh privacy screen was placed along a part of the fencing, blocking their views. Then, on Friday, an additional privacy projection was placed to the fence around the campus, blocking the public opinions of the career route used.
Arrington said he has not had news of the voters about the arrival of Maxwell, but believes that the application of local law and penitentiary security could handle any related threat.
“We have no fear,” said Arrington. “We had no problem last week.”
Residents around the FPC Bryan say that the change in security is a diversion of the norm.
“They are patrolling for her, not for us,” said Marc Ybarra, 22, from his home to the other side of Prison Street, referring to Maxwell.
Ybarra said it makes sense that it would end in Texas, and in a semi-river area like Bryan, to maintain it and the controversy that surrounds its “silence.”
“It makes the agenda they had, whatever they are trying to push,” added Ybarra’s partner, Mya López, 21. She greeted an inmate who walked along the trot path of the prison.
In a recent afternoon, Bryan’s native, Angel Castaneda, worked with a crew on an entrance and sidewalk of a house in front of the prison field, while the guards armed with bulletproof vests and other teams patrolled for the property.
“Now they are 24/7,” said Castaneda.
The cars used to drive to the entrance of the prison and use a scanner to overcome a barrier arm, he said, but now the guards meet the drivers.
“Most people have always felt that this was safe. It has never really been a problem,” said Castaneda about the prison field. “They have always had everything under control.”
“You will hear from a woman who escapes every two, three, five years. She is random,” he said, adding that they generally do not go far.
Maxwell’s arrival in prison worries him, he said, but he gave him his status as a sexual offender than any conspirator association.
“If they have them in custody,” said Castaneda, “it’s probably better that way.”
