Berlin said he had deported on Friday 81 Afghan men convicted of crimes in Germany in the second operation of this type to his homeland controlled by the Taliban.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said that the plane that took men had just taken off and added that everyone was under expulsion orders and were convicted of the criminal justice system.
Germany stopped the deportations to Afghanistan and closed its embassy in Kabul after the return of the Taliban to power in 2021.
Berlin has only had indirect contact with the Taliban authorities through third parties.
A debate on the resumption of expulsions has become a key issue in the middle of the emergence of the extreme right -wing alternative for the Germany party (AFD).
The previous government of the Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz expelled a group of 28 Afghas convicted of crimes on August 30, 2024, marking the first action of this type since the return of the power of the Taliban.
Friday’s operation was carried out with the help of Qatar, said the German Ministry of Interior, adding that such expulsions “must continue in the future.”
