Gerber teething sticks still on shelves despite recall over choking concerns, company warns

GERBER retired and discontinuous Soothe ‘N’ Chew Sticks is still available on the shelves of the retailers and online despite the concerns about asphyxiation incidents, the company announced Friday.

The company issued a reminder that all strawberry apples lots and banana dentition sticks initially retired in January after suffocation incidents were reported, with at least one visit to the emergency room.

Dentition sticks were distributed throughout the country in stores and online.

Consumers who have bought the affected lots should not feed the product from their children and can return to the retailer for a complete refund. If consumers see the products still available for sale, they are recommended not to buy them.

“We have been working with the United States Drug and Food Administration (FDA) in this retirement and cooperate with them,” said Gerber Products Co. in the statement. “Once again, we sincerely apologize for any restlessness or inconvenience that this action represents for parents, caregivers and retail customers.”

To identify retired products, look for all lot codes:

  • Strawberry Apple (3.2 Oz): UPC 0 15000 04618 7
  • BANANA (3.2 OZ): UPC 0 15000 04608 8
  • BANANA (1.59 OZ): UPC 0 15000 01015 7
