Funeral prayers were offered in Peshawar on Sunday for two police officers who were martyred during the dismissal of their vehicle, authorities said.
The incident took place when armed drug traffickers opened fire against the mobile squad of the Intelligence Office Special Taxes (EIB) GT Road in the Taro Pabbi area of Nowshera in the early hours of the day, rescue spokesman 1122, Nabeel Khan, confirmed Dawn.com.
As a result, Iftikhar and Mujahid agents were martyred. The driver of the vehicle, Shabbir, also lost his life in the attack. Subinspector Farooq Bacha was injured and has been hospitalized.
Funeral prayers for martyred staff were offered with all honors in Peshawar police lines on Sunday morning.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that deceased special tax staff has reached a “high range of martyrdom.” According to a statement issued by the Interior Ministry, Naqvi said: “We are with the afflicted families of martyred staff.”
Last month, three police officers were martyred in firearms attacks in the districts of Bajo Waziristan in southern Waziristan, Hagu and Lakki Marwat.
In early March, two police officers were martyred, while a security guard lost his life in separate night attacks in the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Karak and Peshawar.
In February, three police officers were martyred, while another six were injured in an attack against a police check in Karak.
