Full activation of Rawalpindi’s Sihala slaughterhouse ordered – Pakistan

Rawalpindi: The district administration directed the complete activation of the slaughterhouse in SI

For a long time, the open slaughter of animals in anti -hygienic conditions has continued without control in the city of garrison due to the indifference of the administration.

There are two slaughterhouses in the city: on the railway near Leh Nullah and Sihala. The Sihala slaughterhouse was established for the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. However, the authorities have failed to force butchers to bring their animals there to kill.

According to the Punjab Food Law, the slaughter of animals without examination by a veterinary doctor is prohibited.

Strict legal measures will be taken against those animals that kill on streets or roads, says DC

But butchers are selling lamb and meat without verification of veterinary doctors. They do not take their animals to slaughterhouses to avoid paying rates.

However, after a gap of years, on Friday a meeting of the Meat Board and the members of the slaughterhouse was held, chaired by the attached commission Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheem. The meeting discussed measures to guarantee the quality of the meat in Rawalpindi and prevent the illegal killing of animals.

The meeting was said that on average, 250 animals were sacrificed daily at the Silaha slaughterhouse. The participants presented suggestions so that a coordinated strategy could be developed to improve the quality of the meat and eliminate the illegal sacrifice.

The attached commissioner said that no commitment would be made on the quality of the meat. He said it was necessary to discourage the illegal slaughter of animals, and add a strict legal action against those involved in it.

He addressed the concerned agencies to effectively control slaughterhouses and guarantee the complete implementation of sanitation standards.

He said that slaughterhouses must be administered by expert personnel and that detailed health control of all animals must be carried out.

The representatives of the livestock department told the meeting that they were taking the necessary measures to improve the quality of the meat. It was also decided at the meeting that a daily report on slaughterhouses would be prepared to guarantee full transparency.

The attached commissioner said that each possible step would be taken to guarantee the provision of healthy quality and meat to citizens. He appealed to the public who cooperates when informing the illegal killing of animals.

When he contacted, Khursheed Qureshi, President Jamiatul Quresh, said that Islamabad butchers had demanded a separate slaughterhouse and in this sense PC-I had been prepared by Nespak, but CDA was reluctant to start working in the I-11/ 4.

“We are not using the slaughterhouse itself for the past 40 years, since it is far from Islamabad. Only some Rawalpindi butchers are using it. Most butchers in Rawalpindi also avoided going there due to the lack of facilities and the increase in transport positions, ”he said.

Qureshi said that more than 800 large animals were sacrificed daily in Rawalpindi, but only 200 of them were taken to Sihala’s slaughterhouse. The remaining animals are sacrificed in the areas of the city center.
