The Government on Sunday decided to transform the border police (FC) into a “federal force nationwide” and will operate in all provinces and territories, state broadcaster Payment television reported.
According to the FC website, the force is commanded by a Superior Police officer and based in Peshawar. The force is administered and maintained by the federal government, which has the power to deploy the FC anywhere in the country for “better protection and administration of those areas.”
The report declared that the renewed force will be appointed the “Federal Police” and will facilitate all the provinces, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Cashmira and Gilgit-Baltistan.
“The sources confirm that this transformation will be formalized through amendments to the Frontier Constabulario Law of 1915, which is expected to receive the approval of the Federal Cabinet,” Payment television reported.
“After the support of the cabinet, a presidential ordinance will be issued to extend the jurisdiction of the FC throughout the country.”
Payment television He informed that after this process, recruitment will begin and new offices will be opened throughout the country. However, the force will continue to be commanded by senior officials of the Pakistan police service.
This is not the first time that such movement is considered.
In 2018, the then internal minister, Ahsan IQBAL said that the federal government was considering a proposal to improve the FC to the Pakistan police to bring strength and incentives for its staff along with those of other civil agencies for the application of the law.
Talking to journalists during a visit to the headquarters of the FC, the minister said that the legislation would be made in that regard.
