Fresh violence in Manipur as mob attacks SP office in Kangpokpi district


NEW DELHI: In a fresh incident of violence, a mob attacked the office of the police superintendent in Manipur Kangpokpi District on Friday night. The attack was over the officer’s alleged failure to withdraw the central force from Saibol village, bordering Imphal East district.
Several people were injured in the attack, news agency PTI reported.
Kuki groups have organized protests following the alleged use of force by security personnel against women in Saibol village on December 31.
The protesters threw stones and various objects at the office, expressing their displeasure at the continued presence of central forcesspecifically the BSF and CRPFin the town, according to an official.
Several police vehicles parked inside the premises of the Superintendent of Police office were damaged during the incident.
