Four people were killed after the medical transport plane in which they were colliding at an airport in the Navajo nation in Arizona, police said.
The double propeller Beechcraft 300 crashed on Tuesday while landing at the Chinle municipal airport in the eastern part of the State, the Federal Aviation Police and administration said.
The president of the Navajo nation, Buu Nygren, said the four dead were medical staff. They were there to pick up a patient from a nearby hospital, police said.
“These were people who dedicated their lives to save others, and their loss feels deeply throughout the Navajo nation,” Nygren said in a statement.
“We honor their service, their sacrifice and the love they showed our communities through their work,” he said. “On behalf of the Navajo nation, I extend my deepest condolences to their families, colleagues and all who are afflicted.”
The Navajo police did not release the identities of those killed in the accident. The department said the plane was from an Albuquerque company, and the company has notified at the end. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
FAA and the National Transportation Security Board are investigating the accident.
