Four astronauts home from space station after successful splashdown – World

An international crew of four astronauts returned home on Earth on Saturday after almost five months aboard the International Space Station, safely returning in a Spacex capsule.

The spacecraft that leads American astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Takuya of Japan Onishi and the Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov splashed the Coast of California at 8:44 am local time (8:34 PM PKT).

His return marks the end of the tenth rotation mission of the crew to the space station under the NASA commercial crew program, which was created to succeed in the era of the space ferry associates with the private industry.

The dragon capsule of the Spacex company of the billionaire Elon Musk separated from the International Space Station (ISS) to 2215 GMT (3:15 am PKT) on Friday.

The dizzying 17 -hour fall of the capsule slowed when it entered the atmosphere again, then further restarted by the deployment of huge parachutes.

After the capsule splashed, it was recovered by a Spacex ship and rose on board. Only then the astronauts were able to breathe the air of the earth again, for the first time in months.

The astronaut team, known as CREW-10, conducted numerous scientific experiments during their time at the space station, including the study of plant growth and how cells react to gravity.

Its launch to the space in March allowed two American astronauts to return home after being unexpectedly trapped aboard the space station for nine months.

When they were launched in June 2024, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were only supposed to spend eight days in space in a test of the first manned flight of the Boeing Starliner.

However, the spacecraft developed propulsion problems and was considered not suitable for flying back, leaving them stranded in space.

NASA announced this week that Wilmore decided to retire after 25 years of service at the US space agency.

Last week, American astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, Kimiya Yui from Japan and Russian Cosmonaut Oleg Platonov approached the ISS for a six -month mission.
