According to the family, the former teenage son of the former New York Yankees star, Brett Gardner, died unexpectedly after getting sick on vacation, according to the family.
Brett Gardner, 41, and his wife, Jessica Gardner, announced the tragic loss through the social networks of the Yankees on Sunday. His 14 -year -old son, Miller Gardner, became ill with several other family members on the trip, according to the statement.
“We have many questions and so few answers at this time, but we know that he died peacefully as he slept on the morning of Friday, March 21,” they wrote.
The couple, who shares an eldest son, Hunter Gardner, did not reveal more details about their trip or the disease that Miller Gardner hired. In their statement, they requested that the public “respect our privacy desires while we cry and seek healing.”
“Miller was a beloved son and brother and we still can’t understand our life without his contagious smile,” they wrote. “He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. Life lived to the fullest every day.”
They thanked “everyone who has communicated to offer support and encouragement during this difficult time”, extending their prayers to friends, teammates and “all other families who have lost a child too soon as we share their pain.”
A former gardener, Brett Gardner spent his entire 14 season baseball race with the Yankees. He was part of the team when he won his last World Series in 2009, only one year after making his MLB debut.
In the team’s own statement, the Yankees described Miller Gardner as “a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and fighter personality, and a warm and loving nature.”
“Words feel insignificant and insufficient to try to describe such unimaginable loss,” Yankees shared on social networks. “It was not only Brett who literally grew in this organization for more than 17 years, so did his wife, Jessica, and his two children, Hunter and Miller.”
