The former governor of Sindh and veteran leader of the PPP, Kamaluddin Azfar, died in Karachi on Monday, according to his family officials and the party.
PPP Sindh Secretary General Senator Waqar Mehdi said Dawn.com That Azfar had been admitted to the Ziauddin hospital, where the last one breathed.
Mehdi said that Azfar’s funeral prayers would probably be decided after the arrival of his children from abroad.
Azfar was a successful assistant of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
He also served as president of PPP Karachi and was once known as the “son of Karachi.”
The veteran leader was instrumental in the construction of apartments for low -income communities in the Karachi line area.
Azfar was a former senator and resigned from his senator when he was appointed governor of Sindh in 1995 by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Sindh’s prime minister Murad Ali Shah expressed sorrow for Azfar’s disappearance, calling him a “wise politician.”
“His political services will be remembered,” Murad said about Azfar, who also held the position of Minister of Finance, according to a statement from the Minister’s office.
The PPP senator, Sherry Rehman, said he was “afflicted” for the death of Azfar.
“It served in many positions, including Governor Sindh, and was a known activist and politician of Karachi, who worked closely with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in local government policies, among other initiatives.
“Prayers for your family and loved ones in this moment of loss,” he said in an X publication.
The Karachi Literature Festival, which was host of Azfar as a speaker several times, called him a well -known lawyer, writer and political figure.
“Educated in Government College, Lahore and Balliol College, Oxford, was called to the bar in the inner temple, London.”
Upon returning to Pakistan, he established his legal practice in Karachi.
“As a writer, the lawyer Azfar has written mainly on issues related to the economy, history and politics. He was an investigation assistant of the winning economist of the Nobel Prize Gunnar Myrdal about his Opus Magnum The Asian Drama: 1960-63.
“His subsequent publications have included China Synthesis (1975), Pakistan: political and constitutional dilemmas (1987), an anthology entitled Pakistan under the army (1991), the Asian drama revisited (1992), Good Government (1994), Discovery of Pakistan (2005) and, more recently, Waters of Lahore (2014)” “KLF, in a description of a moment in a moment.
Azfar has occupied key offices, such as the Minister of Finance, Planning and Development of Sindh, Federal Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, and special assistant of the Prime Minister.
