Former President Joe Biden on Friday attended the graduation of his grandson’s high school, marking his first public appearance since he announced last weekend that prostate cancer was diagnosed.
In the photos published on Instagram by former First Lady Jill Biden and former president’s former daughter, Ashley Biden, former president and former First Lady appeared along with other family members to celebrate Robert Hunter II’s graduation from Salisbury School in Salisbury, Connecticut.
One of the photos published by Jill Biden included the subtitle, “Proud nana and pop! Congratulations Hunter – we are very proud of you.”
In the photos that Ashley Biden published later on Friday, it seemed that the former president was also seen at the airport, although it is not clear to which airport he was photographed.
Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and his personal office said in a statement: “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen by a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing the increase in urinary symptoms.
On Tuesday, his office issued a second statement, adding that he had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer before last week. The statement also clarified that the former president had not been tested for prostate cancer in more than a decade.
The diagnosis of Biden cancer revived the debate among the Democrats about the age and health of the former president, particularly because his diagnosis was announced in the context of the launch of a new book by Jake Tapper of CNN and Alex Thompson of axes that examined the health and cognitive skills of Biden during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Biden and his family have repeatedly defended the former president of the accusations that his cognitive or physical health was deteriorating while he was in office.
His granddaughter, Naomi Biden, wrote in a publication about X this week that the book was: “A lot of little original lies and without inspiration written by irresponsible journalists who promote to earn money.”
The book “is based on unidentified anonymous sources that push a selfish false narrative that acquit them of any responsibility for our current national nightmare,” he added. “All this at the expense of such a completely good and honest man that it is impossible for these people to understand why or how everything. There are real stories to tell and one day they will be. I suspect that history will reward the truth.”
