‘Forced conversions and marriages’: Minorities facing persecution in Pakistan, government informs Parliament | India News

Nueva Delhi: The Government of the Union informed Parliament on Thursday that there have been reports of atrocities against minority communities in Pakistan, including Hindus. The Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, provided this information in a written response to a consultation in Rajya Sabha.
The Ministry of External Affairs was asked if the government was aware that the members of the Hindu community were emigrating from the province of Sindh due to violence and discrimination.
“There have been reports of atrocities against minority communities in Pakistan, even against members of the Hindu community. Incidents such as intimidation, kidnapping, persecution, forced conversions and forced marriages, which force them to migrate, have been reported from time to time,” said Singh.
He was also asked if the government had data on Hindus that migrate from Pakistan to India.
Singh replied that several members of the Hindu community in Pakistan request Indian visas in the high commission of India in Islamabad. “These requests are processed according to the existing rules. Some of them who entered India in valid visas have not returned to Pakistan for religious persecution,” he said.
In addition, he added that Pakistan Hindu migrants seeking permanent settlement and Indian citizenship are eligible for a long -term visa (LTV) under the existing provisions.
