New Delhi: five people from Nepal, including three women, died on Saturday when their SUV overturned in Bihar while returning from the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The accident occurred in the Muzapharpur de Bihar district when the speed SUV turned several times while trying to avoid a motorcycle and turned a sharp turn. There were nine people in the car.
“According to the eyewitnesses, the driver took an abrupt turn, trying to avoid hitting a motorcycle. All occupants belonged to the Nepal District of Mahottari,” the PTI news agency cited the Deputy Superintendent of Vineeta Police of Vineeta Sinha.
“While five people, three of them women, died in the spot, the remaining four were seriously injured and have been sent to a hospital in Patna,” he added.
The deceased have been identified as Mantarni Devi, 45, Archana Thakur, 30, Balkrishna Jha, 60, Indu Devi, 55, and the driver of the vehicle, whose name has not yet been revealed, according to a Post Katmandu report.
