Nueva Delhi: The February of this year was the warmest February of India since the maintenance of records began in the country in 1901 and the next season of warm climate during March to May in most parts of the country it is likely to be warmer with the report of more number of days of heat waves during the period, the IMD said on Friday.
It was the second consecutive month of the year that appeared among the top three in record terms, since January 2025 was the third warmer January since 1901.
The warmer consecutive months and the prediction of the temperature higher than the standard in March can negatively affect the crops planted with winter, such as wheat and rapes during its maturation phase. The most heat wave forecast can threaten production in certain states where sowing was delayed.

India during February registered 22.04 degrees Celsius of medium temperature, which was 1.34 degrees C above normal. The month recorded the most warm minimum (night) temperature and the second maximum temperature (day) since 1901.
Among the four homogeneous regions, February 2025 was the warmest in February in the center of India, while it was the third most warm in the India of the South Peninsular, the fifth warmer in the northwest and the ninth warmer in the east and northeast of India. The average temperature in central India was 24.6 degrees C, while it was 26.75 degrees C in Peninsular India, 20.14 degrees C in the east and northeast of India and 17.11 degrees C during the month in northwest India.
March will also be warmer with most parts of the country waiting for temperatures above normal both during the day and during the night. “It is likely that the maximum monthly (daytime) temperatures for March are above normal in most parts of India, except in some more southern parts of Peninsular India, where it is likely that the maximum temperatures below normal,” Pai said.
During March, it is likely that the days of heat wave above normal are in most of the center of India and the adjacent northern parts of the South Peninsula and some areas of the Northwest and the east of India.
Heat waves pose significant risks for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children and those with pre -existing health conditions, which leads to a heat stroke, dehydration and infrastructure tension.
