The Federal Research Office of the United States (FBI) has added to Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, says Amiri Moghadam, to its most sought after list for its alleged participation in the 2007 kidnapping of the retired agent of FBI Robert A. “Bob” Levinson, which disappeared after traveling to Kish Island of Iran.
On Tuesday night, the FBI Washington Field Office published ‘Information Search’ posters that identify three senior Iranian intelligence officials who allegedly played key roles in Levinson’s disappearance and in efforts to hide Tehran’s participation.
Ambassador Moghadam, also known as Ahmad Amirinia, previously headed the Operations Unit of the Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOI), during which he supervised the agents who operated in Europe. Now he works as the main diplomat of Iran in Islamabad.
According to the FBI, it is suspected that Moghadam supervised the operation that led to the kidnapping of Levinson and then participated in the cover -up. Levinson, a special agent retired from the FBI, arrived at Kish Island on March 8, 2007 and disappeared the next day.
In a statement, the FBI said the posters were released as part of an ongoing investigation into Iranian officials “who allegedly held roles in the kidnapping of Bob and Iran’s attempt to obfuscate their responsibility.”
The other two appointed officials are:
Taghi Daneshvar, also known as Sayyed Taghi Ghami, a Mois Senior counter -espionage officer who, according to the reports, supervised Mohammad Baseri, also known as healthy, when Levinson disappeared.
Gholamossein Mohammadnia, a deputy of Mois Senior who served as Iran ambassador to Albania in 2016. He was expelled from Albania in December 2018 for allegedly “damaging his national security.” The FBI states that he directed the efforts to change the guilt of Levinson’s disappearance to a terrorist group in the Baluchistan region of Pakistan.
“These three intelligence officers were among those who allegedly facilitated the kidnapping of Bob in 2007 and the subsequent cover -up of the Iranian government,” said Steven Jensen, deputy director in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office. “Bob probably later perished in captivity away from his family, friends and colleagues.”
The images and a video that shows Levinson in captivity emerged in 2010 and 2011, but since then there has been no confirmed sighting of him. In March 2025, the United States Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on Moghadam and several others in relation to the case.
The FBI argues that his investigation remains active, since he seeks to identify more Iranian officials involved in kidnapping. Although the Pakistani authorities have not been linked to the incident, the case now has a direct connection with Islamabad through the diplomatic publication of Moghadam.
