A father and a son accused of planning a mass murder inspired by Isis in Toronto have received the order to be tried next year.
Ahmed and Mostafa Eldidi’s lawyers appeared in the Superior Court in Newmarket, Ontario, this morning. The Court scheduled a six -week jury trial, to begin on September 8, 2026.
The RCMP said the defendants were “in the advanced stages of planning a serious and violent attack” when the men were arrested with an ax and a machete in a hotel in Richmond Hill in July 2024.
Ahmed Eldidi and his son Mustafa 27, both face a conspiracy charge to commit murder, as well as crimes of terrorism.
Ahmed Eldidi, 63, faces the charges of war crimes separately in relation to an ISIS propaganda video that shows a man dismembering a prisoner in 2015. A separate trial on those positions, which is expected to last approximately five weeks, has been scheduled for November 9, 2026.
The RCMP said it marked the first national security investigation where charges of war crimes have been established in Canada.
The lawyers for both elders are scheduled to return to the Court on June 27 at 9 am both defendants remain in custody.
