Paris – The French police rescued the father of a rich cryptocurrency entrepreneur in a night raid after Ransom was taken as a hostage, the last alleged criminal effort in France to extort the people involved in the management of digital assets.
The man was kidnapped Thursday morning in Paris, the prosecutor said on Sunday.
“The victim turned out to be the father of a man who made his fortune in cryptocurrencies, and the incident was accompanied by a rescue demand,” said his statement, without giving their names or other details about their identities.
Police investigators located the hostage in a house in the Essonne region south of Paris, from which he was rescued on Saturday night, said the prosecutor’s office.
He said he was treated for injuries but did not give details. The French media reported that the alleged hostages cut one of the man’s fingers.
Police arrested 5 people: four were in or near the house where the man remained captive, while the fifth was behind the wheel of a vehicle that is believed to be used for the alleged kidnapping, said the prosecutor’s office.
He said that police investigation is analyzing a variety of possible criminal charges, including kidnapping “with torture or a barbarian act.”
In January, the Police said that a co -founder of the French cryptography wallet firm, David Balland, was also kidnapped with his wife from home in the Cher region of the center of France.
Police said they made 10 arrests and that the alleged kidnappers demanded a rescue in the cryptocurrency of another Ledger co -founder.
A raid of the Unit of the National Group of Gendarmerías intervention in France that specializes in hostage situations released Balland the next day, continued the day later for liberation, again by the Gign, of his wife, found tied in a vehicle, the police said.
