The publications of the Indian accounts on the Social Network Platform X have been sharing an alleged confidential notification of the Prime Minister (PMO) about the hospitalization of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif since April 27. However, the prime minister’s office has not published this notification and is false.
The relations between Pakistan and India have become extremely agrias since an attack in Pahalgam took place, a tourist access point in the Kashmir occupied by India that attracts thousands of visitors every summer, on April 22. Armed men opened fire against visitors, killing at least 26 people from all over India, except one from Nepal, and hurting others 17. After the attack, India, without providing evidence, implied that the attackers had links with Pakistan, an accusation that Islamabad has refuted vehemently.
The incident led to a serious degradation of ties between the two countries. Since then, the Indian main current and the media of social networks have been spreading propaganda against Pakistan.
After the same trend, an Indian X account on Monday (https://perma.cc/4uad-6pvz) shared a notification claiming that Prime Minister Shehbaz was hospitalized at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Rawalpindi.
The position of the legend said: “Great, Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, hospitalized.”
The text of the supposed notification is reproduced below:
“Subject: Confidential: Hospitalization of the Honorable Prime Minister at CMH Rawalpindi.
Therefore, it is reported, in confidence, that the honorable prime minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Rawalpindi on April 27, 2025, for medical evaluation and treatment related to a hemorrhoid case.
The prime minister remains under the care of experts from a medical team specialized in CMH. From the last update, your health status is stable and is responding well to the prescribed treatment course. The hospitalization has been carried out as a medical measure of caution and standard advised by their attending doctors.
All interested offices are recommended to maintain a strict confidentiality of this information. Disclosure to public media or forums is not allowed unless it is officially authorized by the Prime Minister’s Office Media or the Ministry of Information and Radiodifusion.
This communication is issued with the approval of the badge and is strictly intended for internal coordination between the relevant departments. “
The document was signed by the main secretary of Prime Minister Asad Rehman Gilani.
The publication obtained more than 171,000 views.
The same claim was also shared by other Indian accounts, as can be seen here and here with more than 764,000 and 74,000 visits, respectively.
A verification of facts began to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality, a great public interest in the events that take place between India and Pakistan following the recent attack of Pahalgama and the sensitivity of the matter, since it directly involved the health of the prime minister.
The notification mentioned Asad Rehman Gilani as the principal secretary of the Prime Minister. However, a keyword search showed a news report from Sunrise Dated March 18, 2025, which confirmed that Gilani had already been transferred from the position and that the post had been abolished since then.
A PMO official also told him Sunrise Correspondent Sanoullah Khan that the viral notification was false.
In addition, no media reports were found that indicate any recent health concern or problems about Prime Minister Shehbaz or his hospitalization.
On the contrary, Prime Minister Shehbaz actively participated in official tasks, including assistance to the meeting of the Common Interests Council on April 28, the same day that the false notification began to circulate on social networks.
Therefore, the verification of facts determined that the claim regarding a notification of the PMO on the hospitalization of Prime Minister Shehbaz in CMH Rawalpindi is FAKE. The viral notification is false and the prime minister has been doing his duties as normal.
This fact verification was originally published by Iverify Pakistan, a CEJ-IBA and UNDP project.
