Users’ publications on the Social Network Platform X on July 3 shared a Digital Media Outlet post Siasat.pk That attributed a statement to the advisor of Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah that Pakistan should follow the Arab position in Abraham’s agreements. However, PML-N leader really said that Pakistan should follow the position of the Muslim world on the subject.
The Israeli offensive, which began in response to the unprecedented attack of Hamas on October 7, 2023, has killed more than 57,000 Palestinians and destroyed much of the hospital and housing infrastructure in the enclave.
Abraham’s agreements, negotiated by the United States in 2020, are historical agreements for diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan. These agreements raided the way for formal ties, such as embassies and trade agreements, backed by mutual interests in safety, economic collaboration and technology exchange. While it was held as a diplomatic change in the Middle East, the agreements also caused debate and resistance in Pakistan. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, have affirmed that Pakistan will not join, stating that any recognition of Israel would contradict his long -standing support for a solution of two states and could only be considered whether to serve the national interest of Pakistan.
On July 3, a publication of Siasat.pk In X he shared a visual with the next appointment attributed to Sanoullah: “Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran should make a joint decision with respect to Abraham’s agreements, Pakistan should align with the Arab countries of Abraham’s agreements.”
The publication won 15,000 views.
The same visual was also shared by the former presenters Imran Riaz and know Shakir, both criticizing and accumulating more than 100,000 and 7,000 visits, respectively.
He was replaced by a user, who, according to his XX, is a journalist, with the legend: “Why have the ministers suddenly captured the fever of Abraham’s agreements?”
It was shared in X by a user known for criticizing PTI and, more recently, the PML-N.
The subtitle of the publication questioned its authenticity, asking: “Rana? Sahib Do you really make this statement, or is it just a trick?
The publication was seen by more than 29,000 users.
A verification of facts began to determine the veracity of the claim due to a great public interest in Abraham’s agreements and because many PML-N supporters were observed disputing the position.
Scan the QR code Siasat.pkThe ‘S position was redirected to a publication on July 2 by journalist Nadem Malik, who had shared a 4: 30 minutes clip of his’ Nadeem Malik Live’ program, which presented Sanullah as a guest.
The subtitle of its publication X also attributed the same appointment to the official as the post of Siasat.pk.
The clip transcription is provided below:
Nadeem Malik: “Rana Sahib, what is your opinion on Abraham’s agreements? How should Pakistan move forward?”
Rana Sanaullah: “Look, the party or the government currently cannot have an opinion on the matter because this issue has not been presented or discussed at that level. As my two respected. [fellow guests] I have shared your personal opinion, I can also share mine. In my personal opinion … there has been a lot of bloodshed and injustice in Palestine. All Muslim countries and the world should establish peace there and daily bloodshed must stop.
“For this purpose, if there is any kind of agreement there, be it the Abraham [Accords] Or any other type of agreement between those forces and people directly involved there … and if it is acceptable for the group (Hamas) that represents the Palestinians and the Arab countries that share the border and then they are agreements, then I think that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Iran are also included, these are main countries, there are also Malaysia, then they should make a joint decision and Pakistan and Pakistan and Pakistan.
“If Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Iran make a decision, and the Arab states directly affected by this matter make a decision, then Pakistan should follow it.”
Reviewing the clip makes it clear that Sanullah said that Pakistan should go along with what most of the Muslim world and their main regional players in the Middle East decide with respect to Abraham’s agreements.
Therefore, the verification of facts determined that the statement that Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah said Pakistan should follow the Arab position in Abraham’s agreements is misleading.
The official said that Pakistan should follow the position of the Muslim world on the subject, including countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkiye, Malaysia and Arab States directly affected by the situation in the Middle East. Omitting the names of the other countries or the mention of the Muslim world has the potential to make the public to think that he said that Pakistan should follow the Arab position on the matter, which makes it seem to be arguing Pakistan’s subsection to his Arab allies.
