After years in the first line of danger, a four -legged hero has made its last reverence. Deep, a 11 -year -old British labrador and one of the “reliable” explosives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, tracked dogs, retired last week after almost a decade of smell threats, saving lives and winning the respect of their human colleagues.
Trained in the detection of explosives, Deep was part of the K9 K9 unit of the KP Police, formed in 2014 to strengthen anti -terrorist efforts and support criminal investigations. Over the years, he worked together with the officers during high -risk operations, security sweeps and the main public events, where their instincts often proved to save lives.
During his almost 10 years of service, Deep showed that he was more than a service dog: he became a symbol of loyalty and courage.
To honor the excellent contributions of Deep, the K9 K9 K9 unit of the special KP Police branch celebrated a modest but sincere retirement ceremony last Tuesday.
The event was attended by Unit and K9 managers and marked the first formal retirement of a service dog in the history of the KP Police. Deep received an honorary medal and a certificate of thanks for its exceptional service.
According to Adil Abdal, director of the K9 Unit, Deep was born in 2016 and forcibly joined after completing his specialized training detection training.
“Deep entered the care center in 2021 during a police operation in Dera Ismail Khan,” Adil told Dawn.com. “We had Intel about an improvised explosive device (FDI), and Deep successfully detected it, which was then deactivated by the pump removal unit.”
Gul Rehman, the Deep handle, shared his emotional bond with the canine couple. “For years, I had a very strong relationship with Deep,” he said.
“He always gave his 100 percent during the hours of service. We have grown emotionally attached to him, we will miss him in the field.”
After his retirement, Deep now lives in Peshawar Police Lines, where special kennels have been established to accommodate retired service dogs. These facilities are equipped to protect them from extreme weather and guarantee a comfortable life after service.
A routine medical control schedule is established, and a deep diet is provided that includes food for dogs and other nutritional items.
Initially, the department considered to be associated with an NGO to find houses after the service for retired dogs. However, according to Abdal, the standard operating procedures (SOP) of many NGOs to deal with retired dogs were not satisfactory.
“We had no idea how deep it would be taken care of once delivered,” he explained. “These dogs are not a burden for us.”
Instead, the department made a conscious decision to retain in the depths of its own facilities. “Deep is part of our team,” said Adil. “We have decided to take care of him for the rest of his life.”
