The former prime minister and president of the Awaam Pakistan party, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, said Wednesday that those in power were “suppressing democracy and dismantling the judicial system” while heading to a debatable organized by the Tehreek opposition alliance Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan.
After the conversations between the government and the opposition collapsed in January, the PTI made another impulse to establish a joint front against the federal government and agreed to Abbasi to be part of its anti -government movement.
The two -day conference discussed today in Islamabad, where opposition parties met to discuss the current political situation and national problems.
Speaking during the conference, Abbasi, while referring to the ruling coalition of PML-N and PPP, said: “These are the same people who used to talk about the same things I am talking about today.
“They talked about these issues for centuries, but today, they are repressing democracy, dismantling the judicial system, suppressing public opinion and is not successful by putting an end to political anarchy. What is forcing you to make such movements? He questioned.
“This is unfortunate because when those who run the political system sell their conscience and when political parties abandon their principles, such countries do not work. These are made obvious in Pakistan today, ”he continued.
“Today, there is no permission to speak, laws are being made to prevent people from talking and dismantling the judicial system,” he said, with an apparent reference to the recently promulgated prevention law of electronic crimes (amendment) 2025, also known as Pula
Referring to the ruling coalition, he said that those who defended democracy in the past were now more inverted in political power, calling the authorities concerned with hindering the organization of the debatable.
“Now, his government is not even allowing a conference related to the Constitution to be held behind closed doors in the capital of the nation,” he said, adding that three places of the conference had to change since the authorities did not allow the celebration of the Conference there.
“We are grateful to lawyers for providing this space today; We also tried other places, including institutions, but today the government is so scared that even a conference on the Constitution is not possible, ”said Abbasi.
He urged the public to talk about the affairs of the country, the supremacy of the Constitution and the democratic process. “This is an open forum and this is everyone’s responsibility,” he said.
Speaking about the opposition alliance, he said that while it was not unusual for different political parties to have disagreements, all were united when it was the Constitution, their supremacy, respect for the law and freedom of the judicial system.
In April of last year, the PTI has already formed a multiparty opposition alliance called Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan, which includes the Sunnita Ittehad party, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami, National Party Baluchistan, Jamaat-Iisami and Majlis Wahdatdat–Muslima.
Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-Pakistan (TTAP) leaders also met the head of the Great Democratic Alliance Pir paid and invited the GDA to the two-day national conference.
PTI’s secretary general, Salman Akram Raja, had said on the occasion that his party wanted democratic rights in the country. It was of the opinion that the policy of his party was for the people of Pakistan and urged others to join them, since it was a struggle for the survival of the country.
Restrictions have been imposed on freedom of expression and the unions are abolishing, he said, claiming that PTI faced the injustices and the founder of the Imran Khan party had asked them to approach all, including the leader of the Pashtun Tahaffuz movement, Manzoor Pashteen and the rights activist Mahrang Baloch, Baloch. .
