Karachi: As Punjab was severely beaten by floods after heavy rains and excess water released by India from its dams, the Sindh government prepared on Wednesday for a high risk of flooding and the established ministerial committees that include elected representatives to treat the development situation.

The Health Department has been asked to mobilize medical equipment to counteract possible outbreaks of water transmitted diseases.

The Sindh Prime Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah convened a meeting and ordered all relevant authorities to remain alert and guarantee the complete implementation of the Provincial Monzón Contingency Plan 2025, the officials added.
The main minister said that the warning of exceptionally high flood levels in the Indo could not be taken lightly. “Our first priority is to save lives and livelihoods, and we must remain in constant coordination with the agencies of NDMA and federal,” he added.
The CM also requested all the MPA of the districts along the Indo River to remain in its electoral districts during the next week and maintain a close coordination with the designated focal people.
The main minister told the participants of the meeting that the flood prognosis division of the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan, in his significant weekly meteorological perspective for the river basins (from August 28 to September 3, 2025), had warned of flooding levels very high to high in the rivers of the east due to heavy rains on the higher training and the ladies of the waters.
He said that the Indo River was expected in Guddu and Sukkur to obtain very high flood levels from September 4 to 5, which could represent a significant threat to the province.
The Prime Minister instructed the Division Commissioners, the Deputy Commissioners, the Provincial Authority of Disaster Management (PDMA) and the relevant departments to remain on alert 24 hours a day and take immediate measures to protect the embankments and vulnerable communities.
The Health Department received instructions to immediately deploy medical equipment and carry out preventive vaccination campaigns against water transmitted diseases.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), local agencies and rescue officials has been aimed at guaranteeing emergency evacuations, providing heavy machinery and organizing safe shelters for those affected by the waters of floods.
The Prime Minister emphasized that all institutions must maintain full coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority and federal authorities.
Focal people
Focal people will be responsible for directly monitoring the situation, coordinating help efforts and guaranteeing the implementation of flood mitigation measures in their designated areas.
For the Guddu area to Sukkur, the Minister of Special Taxes and Taxes, Mikesh Kumar Chawla, has been appointed as the focal person for the right bank, while the Minister of Agriculture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar, will supervise the left shore.
For the Sukkur area to Kotri, the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Jam Ikramullah Khan Dharejo, will supervise the right bank, while the Minister of Energy and Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, will supervise the left bank.
Under Kotri, religious affairs, Zakat Minister and Ushr, Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi, have been appointed as the focal person for the right bank, while the Minister of Livestock and Fishing, Muhammad Ali Malkani, will supervise the left shore.

The governor of Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori described the release of water from India in the Pakistan rivers as “water terrorism” against the country.
In statements to the media in Governor House, the governor of Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, accompanied by the main leader of MQM Pakistan, Anees Qaimkhani and others, said that the “water terrorism” of India had caused floods in the Chenab and Ravi rivers, and its impact will soon feel in the accommodation of Kotri in Sindh of Rez Rayo.
He appealed to the philanthropists and rich people to communicate with areas affected by floods and extend assistance to affected families.
