On Saturday an evacuation order was issued for Sandy Lake First Nation when a forest fire moved towards the community of Northwest Ontario.
Sandy Lake officials issued the order after the fire, known as Red Lake 12, was seen moving north to the community in the Kenora district of the province. Sandy Lake First Nation, a flight community, is located about 600 kilometers northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Ontario Forest Fires says on a Facebook post that community officials are asking residents to meet in the southeast corner of Sandy Lake, where fire management staff is mobilizing ships.
Red Lake 12 has grown at a size of more than 66,000 hectares in the region, and is not yet under control.
The smoke of fire has impregnated many parts of the province, which has led to statements and warnings of air quality.
