Although Zelenskyy has loudly rejected that at every step, what really worries many of his supporters is that Ukraine will be forced to deliver these lands without the appropriate “security guarantees” of his allies, perhaps in the form of peace deployments in the hope of deterring Putin simply regrouping to launch his next aggression.
“The anguish is that, in Trump’s desire to have some kind of treatment, it will be a really bad treatment for Ukraine,” News Hamish from Bretton-Gordon, a former commitment officer of the British Armed Forces, told NBC, told NBC News in a telephone interview on Monday. “This seems to be a deal between the gangster and the real estate magnate. But in reality the real people involved, who should be involved, are not.”
The Europeans issued their statement on Sunday after being organized by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy in their official residence in Chevengo, a seventeenth -century mansion set in a wide farm to the southwest of London. But Lammy’s main guest during the weekend was Vice President JD Vance, who stopped against European guests while on vacation in the United Kingdom with his family.
Vance and Lammy shared a perhaps unlikely connection, given their right and left policy, respectively, they joined the fishing and their shared roots of the working class and the Christian faith.
But in an interview with Fox News, the vice president, a skeptic for a long time of the United States support to Ukraine, clarified the geopolitical differences.
“We have ended with the financing of the Ukraine War business,” he said. “The Americans, I think, are fed up to continue sending their money and taxes to this particular conflict. If Europeans want to step forward and buy weapons of US producers, we agree with that,” he added. “If you care so much this conflict, you should be willing to play a direct and more substantial role.”
That is a much harder way to affirm what Trump has already committed to himself: that the United States is willing to bring weapons to Ukraine, but only if European allies pay for them.
Leaving aside the gust of diplomacy, it is still the case that Russia and Ukraine remain diametrically opposite in what they want from peace conversations. In addition to more Ukrainian lands, Russia wants a promise that Ukraine will marry her army and will never join NATO, something that her critics say she would make kyiv a vassal from Moscow.
Ukraine wants to survive as a nation and stop the bleeding of people and resources with whom he has been forced to commit to fighting his attacker.
